Pennsylvania Roots, National & International Reach
With over 750 attorneys and principals, Blank Rome was founded in Philadelphia in the 1940s, and has strategically grown ever since—today, the firm has 16 offices spanning the United States and China. Over the course of the firm’s history, Blank Rome has developed into a general practice firm, providing corporate and litigation support to clients in the real estate, financial services, technology, energy, cannabis, and life sciences industries, among others. Adding to the list, the firm has expanded its focus on international trade; consumer financial services; privacy, security, and data protection; energy, petrochemical, and natural resources; intellectual property; and white collar defense and investigations. Additionally, Blank Rome has nationally and internationally recognized maritime, matrimonial, insurance recovery, and government contracts practices.
Wide-Ranging, Yet Focused
While Blank Rome’s practice and industry scope runs the gamut, the firm also boasts some niches. The Manhattan office houses some of the most prominent matrimonial and estates and trusts practices in the United States, along with leading practices in corporate, mergers and acquisitions, international and maritime litigation, financial services, and real estate. The firm’s Washington, D.C., office is home to leading government contracts, insurance recovery, international trade, maritime, litigation, intellectual property, and government relations practices. Blank Rome is one of a growing handful of firms that have turned to lobbying to complement its legal practice. Blank Rome Government Relations LLC, established in 2003, lobbies on Capitol Hill and in select state capitals, focusing on influencing policy for clients in such areas as technology and communications, maritime, energy, defense and national security, transportation, and healthcare.
A Firm that Learns Together
If there is one thing that Blank Rome takes seriously, it is professional development. Each associate helps select a career development advisor focused on that associate’s level and with whom the associate meets at least quarterly. The firm has a competency-based career development framework—which informs assignments—plus a robust feedback process, in which virtually every supervising lawyer actively participates and provides feedback to associates at least twice per year (over 98% participation each time). The firm hosts a variety of training programs, including its annual Blank Rome Trial Academy, through which senior associates receive comprehensive training (lectures, breakouts, demonstrations, practice, critique, etc.). The program culminates with participants and partners traveling from all across the country to try the case in Philadelphia City Hall Former and active judges serve as judges for the program, and attorneys and staff join as jurors and witnesses.
Blank Rome continues to add top talent and expand in key markets, practices, and industries to meet their clients’ needs. And, just like day one, they are committed to fostering an environment where everyone can do their best work and where client service excellence, diversity and inclusion, community investment, pro bono, well-being, and innovation drive everything they do.
