Our Clients

Nearly 90 % of our attorneys are litigators, and many have advanced degrees in health and sciences fields. Just over a third of our 520 lawyers are associates who work with partners to represent leading international companies in a variety of industries, including technology, chemicals and automotive, pharmaceutical and medical devices. Shook has represented nearly three-quarters of the Fortune 100. Our clients include global industry leaders who demand proven legal strategies. Whether resolving cases through aggressive discovery, pretrial motions, alternative dispute resolution, or obtaining victories at trial or on appeal, the firm has an established reputation for getting the job done.

Shook recently launched an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Practice to best serve our clients. The firm recognizes that ESG has advanced from an aspiration to a crucial component of businesses wanting to stay competitive and resilient.

Pro Bono

Shook’s pro bono efforts reflect our dedication to representing clients in matters as diverse in nature and scope as the attorneys who handle them. Our work – which consists of more than 30,000 hours annually — ranges from immigration cases in Seattle to guardianship matters in Houston; from foster care adoptions in Los Angeles to domestic violence protective orders in Kansas City; from prisoners’ rights cases in Miami to veterans’ appeals in San Francisco.  Each day, our lawyers are on the front lines advocating for individuals in need, advising nonprofits and small businesses and fighting to protect our civil rights.  Moreover, to institutionalize this ongoing commitment, Shook has appointed a full-time pro bono partner and director to develop a strategy that drives our pro bono work and to administer the program’s day-to-day activities.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Shook is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace in support of all our lawyers and professional staff. In 2020, the firm launched five Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to provide a comfortable space where like-minded employees can come together as members of the Asian, Black, Latinx, LGBTQ+ and Veterans communities. In 2021, Shook formed a new ERG to recognize the first generation of professionals. Through the efforts of Shook attorneys and staff, the firm has been consistently noted as a leading law firm in support of LGBTQ+ and diverse employees, and people with disabilities. In 2022, Seramount recognized Shook for the 12th year among its Top Law Firms for Women.

Community Service

Each year, Shook provides a paid day for each employee to engage in outreach programs, supporting non-profit agencies that provide resources to strengthen the communities where we live and work.  Employees design a variety of service events, including food drives, fundraising efforts, donation of supplies and volunteer services to at-risk populations, community beautification projects, and blood and bone marrow donation.
