Our International Trade & National Security team advises innovative companies, including established blue-chip enterprises, corporate strategic investors and investment funds, advanced manufacturers, fintech companies, defense contractors and startup developers of emerging technologies, on a wide range of export controls, sanctions, foreign direct investment reviews, customs and trade policy.
Job Description:
Fenwick’s Washington, D.C. office is seeking an entry-level associate or junior associate to join its Trade & National Security practice. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience, but we are also open to entry-level associates who have directly relevant prior work experience in this specific practice area. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in economic sanctions and U.S. export controls, including EAR and ITAR, OFAC, trade policy and national security issues (such as CFIUS/FOCI), including compliance counseling, product classifications, license applications, rulemaking advocacy, internal investigations and government enforcement proceedings, and foreign direct investment filings. DC bar membership is required, or the ability to be admitted in DC. Superior academic credentials and excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are required. Experience with, or affinity for, technology and/or life sciences companies is a priority. Government experience is a plus, but not required. The practice is fast-paced, highly creative, and entrepreneurial. We work with cutting-edge technologies, company founders, and senior government officials day-to-day; strong skills in leadership, project-management, client relationships, and intellectual curiosity are essential.

The anticipated range for this position is:
$215,000 – $250,000
Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance. Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
