Our law practice—built on the talent, creativity, and determination of our lawyers and an unwavering commitment to our clients—has grown into a global firm of tremendous breadth. While many things have changed since the firm’s inception, our goal has remained steadfast: provide the highest echelon of service by developing strategic partnerships with our clients, creating and implementing tailored business solutions, and identifying opportunities for innovation. Complementing this service model is the priority we place on diversity and inclusion, as well as our role in serving critical needs in our communities.

What differentiates life at Winston is the quality of our people, the challenging work, and the resources and opportunities we provide for professional growth.

  • Reduced hours targets during “ramp down” and “ramp up” periods.
  • Partner-level Parental Leave Liaison to access for advice and Working Parents Career Strategist who helps parents create a career plan that works for you and your family.
  • 60 days of paid back-up childcare for a child’s first year and 30 days per year after that.
  • The option to work a flexible hours schedule for those who want to spend more time at home.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
At Winston & Strawn, greater diversity, equity, and inclusion is a high priority that starts at the top with our strategic business plan that guides firmwide development and operations.

Our vision is to cultivate a culture where all talented contributors can have, and can see, a path to long-term success. We back this up with measurable, high-impact goals, and numerous recruitment, retention, and advancement initiatives for our women, racial/ethnic minority, and LGBTQ+ attorneys and professional staff.

Pro Bono
Innovative and active engagement in pro bono is a hallmark of Winston & Strawn and we have a longstanding commitment to excellence in serving the public interest.

A critical component of the firm’s commitment to pro bono excellence is senior management’s expectation for every lawyer and paralegal to devote at least 35 hours to pro bono service each year. Winston also allows associates to count 100 hours towards their annual billable hours goal and unlimited credit towards a high hours bonus.

For the past six years, Winston has ranked as a top 25 firm on The American Lawyer Pro Bono Scorecard. In 2022, 97% of U.S. attorneys contributed 20 hours of pro bono service. Firmwide, Winston attorneys devoted 60,000+ hours to pro bono matters—an average of 66 hours per attorney.
